Drop the apn files into K-Lite Player & it views them.
---SPECS OF THE APN FILE---
------------------------------------------------------------
As all are only 64K i have found what image format their in its MPEG-2, @ 4:3, 720x480 Pixel Res, Progressive Scan with a pixel Aspect ratio of 0.9091 NTSC DV.
One frame is from 0.00 - 0.040 Seconds or 1764 Samples and the second is from 0.040 - 0.067 Seconds or 2943 Samples which is slightly augmented.
File Size I don't think at is an issue as long as it does not exceed 64k.
------------------------------------------------------------
Im Testing at the moment and will let those who want to create their own custom background image the details and what Software they need and the KNOW HOW. IF I GET IT RIGHT
PLEASE POST IF YOU ARE INTERESTED
Wish me luck :)

I've posted all my current technical research on APN files thus far there and someone else's working hacked file is also available on that thread. Read my notes before you blindly upload the hacked file to your unit though.

I hope you realise that the guy that started that thread is full of crap.
If you download the package, extract the files, change the extension of the .apn to .mpg, and load it in WMP, you get the goatse.cx image, nothing to do with the fake wallpaper he included in the package.

Guess you didn't read the whole thread. I already pointed that out and even put goatse.cx guy in bold when I mentioned it. You're right about renaming the file, but thats because you also have a compatible codec installed on your system. You should find that real Alpine APN files can also be renamed to MPG also show the picture inside on your system in Windows Media Player.
The guy that started the whole thing was being malicious, but as far as I tell, he is the only one with a valid working (loads and displays on i-Personalize compatible head units) APN file that is not from Alpine, at least proving it can be done.
